Best Hotel in Chiang Mai: High End – Rachamankha Hotel

best hotels in Chiang Mai

Rachamankha Hotel is situated in Chiang Mai’s Historic Old Town on an unassuming and quiet street. The hotel, which was designed by father and son team is inspired by eleventh century Chinese dwellings and Lanna Style design. From the moment you enter the grounds of Rachamankha, which feel more like a luxury home than hotel, you are struck by the peace and tranquility of the property. The hotel is constructed of a series of open courtyards and blind corners provides maximum privacy from the outside world.

Sporting a large calm pool, old style library, and an exceptional restaurant it’s possible to not leave Rachamanka for an entire day and not feel bad about it. The wood paneled library features over 2,000 books and is a great place to read or get some work done while sipping on complementary cognac.

The hotel’s staff is friendly, helpful, and quick to smile. Every room is unique in style and decoration, but all have the most comfortable mattresses we encountered in our two months in Thailand.

What makes Rachamankha special is the fact that you are actually staying in someone’s home. The father/son team, who are the architect and interior designer, actually live on the grounds of the hotel and it is evident by the fact that their vast collection of original artwork and antiques from all over Asia decorate every room and public space of the hotel. This is not a run of the mill resort, but a well planned and thought out luxury retreat from the usual hustle and bustle of Thailand’s second largest city.

If you want to pamper yourself a bit or are not traveling on a strict budget we highly recommend Rachamanka as one of the best luxury hotels in Chiang Mai.

The cleaning staff resupplies each guest with a bottle of water a day, fresh towels, and is generally very attentive.

So Hostel also has a large modern kitchen on its ground floor, a comfy set of couches on the second floor in a cool common area, and fast WiFi throughout the building.

Best Budget Hotel in Chiang Mai – BB House

BB House Hostel Chiang Mai

This newly opened hotel/vegetarian restaurant is run with obvious relish and zest. We happened to stumble upon this gem while looking for budget accommodation and were its first guests. The staff treated us like family, and helped nurse us back to health after a nasty bout of food poisoning.

BB House features small rooms with air-con and bunk beds, which all have new soft mattresses. While the private rooms are small they don’t feel cramped, and each has a small desk for the working traveler. The owner is passionate about having the cleanest guesthouse in the neighborhood and that certainly shows. Extremely affordable, with the bonus of having a yummy vegetarian restaurant in the lobby.

BB House is recommended for backpackers and budget travelers in Chiang Mai who are looking for affordable, modern. and quite accommodation options.
